Description
In 2025 one of New Zealand's leading Rural Tax experts Tony Marshall will join us once again for a series of three webinars with a Rural Tax focus.
This webinar series will guide participants through common and complex rural tax issues across a wide range of topics.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, the tax issues that arise for clients operating in the rural sector are as varied and complex as any other type of business, if not more so due to the overlay of specific tax rules.
The webinars will focus on topics where questions and difficulties often arise, including the following:
Webinar 1 - 21 May 2025
- Natural disasters – application of the emergency response rules, tax treatment of repair costs, insurance proceeds and damaged assets.
- Resource consents – including deductibility of expenditure, assigning value in a sale agreement
- Farms with forestry – review of the tax rules applying to the sale of forestry assets, forestry rights and emissions units.
Webinar 2 - 20 August 2025
- Business and Private use of farmhouses – income tax and GST considerations including farm stay/Air BnB situations
- Dairy futures contracts – making sense of the contracts, statements and the recognition of income and expenditure
- Farm worker salary packages and payments – are you compliant?
Webinar 3 - 22 October 2025
- Death of a farmer – what rules apply and what can you do to mitigate the tax consequences
- Environmental and sustainability expenditure – tax deductibility
- Income equalisation – is there still value in using the regime?
Each webinar will deal with 3 specific scenarios, incorporating the latest thinking from practitioners and Inland Revenue on each of the topics. Each of the topics draw on issues Tony has looked at over the past year or so that have not been covered in detail.
Dates for the 2025 series:
- Webinar one - Wednesday, 21st May
- Webinar two - Wednesday, 20th August
